Is Calm Moments free?
Yes, completely free. There are no ads, no subscription and no in-app purchases.
Does Calm Moments collect any data?
No. Calm Moments collects no data and has no analytics or tracking. Your settings stay on your own phone. There is nothing to opt out of, because nothing is gathered in the first place.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email address to hand over. You open the app and it works.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Nothing is downloaded while you use it, so the app works with no internet connection at all, including in aeroplane mode.
A few quiet minutes, whenever you need them.
Is there an Android version?
Not at the moment. Calm Moments is iPhone only. It's made by one developer, and an Android version isn't in progress yet.
Which languages does it support?
English and Dutch. You can switch language in the settings at any time.
Are there streaks, goals or scores?
No. Nothing is counted and there is nothing to keep up with. A small vine grows along the edge of the feed as you use the app. It never wilts, and missing a week costs you nothing.
Is this a meditation app?
No. There is nothing to do except scroll. There is guided breathing and a 5-4-3-2-1 grounding walk if you want them, but nothing is required and nothing is taught.
Does Calm Moments send notifications?
No. Calm Moments never sends notifications and never asks you to come back. An app about putting your phone down shouldn't be pulling you towards it.
Why does it ask for the microphone?
Only for one rare card where you blow the clouds apart. The app measures the volume of the sound and nothing else. No audio is recorded, kept or sent anywhere. Decline it and the card still works: a slow sweep across the screen is the wind instead.
Who made Calm Moments?
One developer, in the Netherlands. There's no company behind it and no investors.
How is it different from Calm or Headspace?
Those are libraries of sessions you open with intent, and they ask for three things: a decision, a block of time, and some effort. Calm Moments keeps the familiar scroll and asks for none of them. It's a different kind of thing rather than a cheaper version of the same thing.
